“I didn’t think I was good enough to come to your church.”

“I didn’t think I was good enough to come to your church.”

I was surprised by this comment by a first-time visitor. It obviously invited a follow-up question about the nature of her disqualification.

She said that she had a problem.

Turns out she was going through a divorce and a friend had invited her to seek some spiritual relief and guidance.

I told her that having a problem was the best qualification for coming to church.

This Sunday at the Gathering Church we will watch what Jesus does when a disqualified person crashes a dinner party. The story is found in Luke 7:36-50.

The person who doesn’t belong becomes one of the best models of how to love God.

What unleashes our love for God?

Trying hard to please God?

Living the spiritually correct life?

How can faith produce love instead of pressure?

Once again, thanks to Jesus we get to learn from an unlikely model.

I hope to see you this Sunday.
